Keeping
schools safe begins at the door. No disagreement on that. However,
locking the door and providing no access to the public can cause as many
problems as it solves. Ideally, access should be provided for staff
through the use of a keypad. Timers can be used to automatically open doors
during class changes for schools with multiple buildings. Cameras are
very useful for identifying visitors, but there is still the problem of how to
